Advice for Travel and Hotels in Arkansas

When you are planning a vacation, what do you see in your mind? Vacations are different things to different people. Some like to run around the area while many others would enjoy nothing more than to pass the whole trip chilling at the pool. If you are wishy-washy like me, you favor a part of both of them. On the one hand, because I have taken the time to travel somewhere unique, I ought to look at some interesting local fare. Of course, if I spend all of my time heading from place to place, when I return home I will want another vacation to recover. Keep the following tips in mind when travelling to Arkansas.

The first thing you ought to do is take care of as much before-hand as you can. That means being responsible and interchanging currency when necessary, glancing at maps of the locality, renting a car, booking a flight, and choosing a hotel that fits your demands. The good news is, all of these labors have become more convenient and cheaper through the internet, so before getting in the car and driving, you may save some dough by putting your computer to work.

When it comes to locating the perfect hotel, remember to look around carefully. Things to weigh might be how it ranks; is it a two star hotel or a 4 star hotel? How far out of the way is it? If you are going to Disneyland but the hotel you reserved is in San Diego, you will waste quite a bit of your vacation behind the wheel. How long are you planning on being at the hotel, and if you are going to be there, what variety of conveniences do they furnish? I will never forget the time I went out to kick back by the hotel pool, only to discover that the hotel I was at didn't have one. I must have appeared odd walking around the hotel with my inflatable innertube around my waist and no swimming pool to be found.

The next item to consider is what to pack. The general rule-of-thumb is not to go overboard. Keep it simple, traveler. Start by getting familiar with the average temperature so that you know what your tummy should pack, but avoid over-packing. Remember, if you forget something, odds are that you can purchase a replacement. As a matter of fact, take as few clothes as possible. I suggest packing older clothing which can be discarded along the way. Depending on where you go, you may find charities that would be glad to take extra clothing off of your hands. Besides, this will make extra space for treasures.

During your travel time, be sure and bring something to occupy the kids. There are lots of travel games out there, and no, I am not talking about the Game Boy. As a matter of fact, I strongly encourage taking a step back from technology. Though it may be your last stand, discourage the kids from packing a walkman, video game systems, television or portable DVD player. Kids get enough of that already. This is a perfect time to get to know those strangers in the back seat while teaching them to survive without their standard forms of entertainment. Maybe they will even learn to appreciate the world. And if their grades were not up to par this year, make them listen to your music along the way. You should see a dramatic improvement in grades next time around.

Two valuable things to think about including in your suitcase are Pepto-Bismol, in case something (though occasionally you may come across a school which can provide an adequate education in 6 months) doesn’t agree with you, and hand sanitizer; the kind you don't need water for. Remember this, no matter what situation you find yourself of, don't let the hand sanitizer replace taking a shower.

When you are traveling to Arkansas, you and your family will regret it if you don't carry lots of what you need for picture taking. If you are behind the times and still use regular film, consider moving up to a digital camera. Nothing is more disappointing to me than when I get back from a trip and discover that some of the pictures didn't turn out. With a digital camera, I can see what I am taking as I go along. The only things I need are batteries and memory space. Now that you can get a good digital camera for under $200, the excuses you have are dwindling. Many tourist sites have camera stores that will transfer your pictures from your memory card to a CD, allowing for you to take even more photos to torture family and friends with when you get home.

I just can't stress enough the value in keeping things elementary. Prepare yourself wisely by taking care of everything you can in advance. In regards to travel, remember, the internet is your ally. Pack, plan, and keep entertainment basic to help make sure that your vacation to Arkansas is a relaxing and memorable one. I hope that this humble authors advice will be helpful to you as you prepare yourself to kickoff on your journey.
